FILM PROP FOR NETFLIX’S THE OA: HYPNOS, GOD OF SLEEP

20-inch 3D-printed reconstruction of ancient Greek sculpture of Hypnos, for the Netflix series The OA.

Concept Realizations was contracted to design and fabricate a 20-inch tall statuette of Hypnos, the Greek god of sleep, for use in the Netflix series The OA.

The show’s set designers wanted a reconstruction of ancient Greek sculptor Praxiteles’ now-lost original sculpture of Hypnos. Concept Realizations combined our own 3D laser-scan of a plaster cast of the British Museum’s Roman bronze head, and our own digital sculpt of Hypnos’ body, which we modeled on images of the Prado’s stone Hypnos.

We 3D printed our digital design, then hand-painted it to look like marble. The entire process, from design, design review and approval, through manufacture, was completed in ten days.
